The Frick Collection: Under a New Light
June 28, 2021
DLFNY SHOWS ITS APPRECIATION AND THANKS FOR DESIGNERS AND SPEAKERS INVOLVED IN 2020-2021 VIRTUAL EVENT SEASON
DLFNY expresses its appreciation for all those involved in our lighting presentations during this challenging past year. We thank you for keeping our programs alive, fun, and wonderfully amazing.
As an acknowledgement of their contributions during our ’20-’21 season of virtual lighting presentations, DLFNY recently invited each of the virtual program speakers to a special lighting tour of Anita Jorgensen’s lighting design at The Frick Madison (Breuer building), 945 Madison Avenue at 75th Street. A representation of students from the city’s various lighting design graduate schools were also in attendance. This special program was held on Wednesday, July 23.

…the perfect way to see the Frick’s masterpieces as if for the first time. Perfectly lit, generously spaced, and hung at eye level against gunmetal grey walls, they seem to glow from within.

‘The Frick Collection – Under a New Light‘
DLFNY’s 2020-2021 presenters and student guests were invited to experience the beloved holdings of The Frick Collection reframed in a completely new context and under a new light. Serving as the Frick’s temporary home while its historic buildings at One East 70th Street undergo renovation, Frick Madison marks the first time that pieces from their collection have been presented outside the walls of the museum’s Gilded Age mansion.
Our guests learned about Anita Jorgensen Lighting Design’s approach to lighting the collection, which was newly installed in Marcel Breuer’s minimalist building, as she guided them through galleries while discussing the challenges involved. Their tour format included a brief tabletop hands-on discussion about the components of the landmarked 1960’s lighting system and how it was brought up to 21st century technology standards while adhering to museum conservation standards.
