SUMMARY:Energetic Lighting\, Red Bull Music Academy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in depth discussion of the Red Bull Music Academy project recently completed by the architectural lighting design firm\, Tillotson Design Associates. Located in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood\, the project involved transforming four vacant floors into a series of meeting spaces\, galleries\, and recording studios. The architecture and lighting create an atmosphere of experimentation intended to spark creativity and collaboration among top musicians around the world for what was a month-long venture of learning and producing music in a new\, cutting edge environment. Interior lighting plays an essential part in dramatically transforming the space from day to night while supporting the many events\, from gallery exhibitions to concerts\, currently held within. \nErin Dreyfous\, principal at Tillotson Design Associates\, will present the concept process and final design solutions for this award-winning (IALD Award of Excellence) project. \nThis program counts as 1 AIA/CES Learning Unit

SUMMARY:BAM Fisher\, Brooklyn's Next Wave Theater
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour and discussion of BAM’s new Richard B. Fisher building a LEED Gold performing arts center that promises to be an artistic hub within a developing cultural community. The central challenge of the design was to create\, on a small budget\, an inviting exterior under the constraints of the building’s landmark-status; the principal lighting features had to be subtle or come from within. \nThe building draws one in through its street presence and enlivened interior\, illuminating the façade without marring the historic fabric. The open lobby\, rooftop terrace\, and flexible black-box theater comprise an extension of BAM that is inextricably woven into its neighborhood. \nCline Bettridge Bernstein\, lighting designers on the project\, will lead a tour through the primary spaces of the facility and will discuss their concept and solutions.

SUMMARY:Beacon at the Crossroads of Brooklyn: Barclays Center Exterior
DESCRIPTION:Join us as Tillotson Design Associates presents the exterior lighting of SHoP Architects-designed instant landmark Barclays Center. \nThe Cor-Ten steel wrapped arena serves as a connection point for Brooklyn and the greater New York City area\, drawing crowds for basketball games and musical acts from Beyoncé to Paul McCartney. The striking lighting of the entry plaza creates a space for large crowds to gather and meet\, and links the building to both the surrounding streets and a major subway connection. We’ll hear about the façade-integrated lighting and plaza lighting for this new iconic addition to the city. \nPhoto Credit: Tommy Voeten

SUMMARY:Light and Magic!
DESCRIPTION:Our season kick-off is also our annual Theater Benefit event\, and this year’s event will be like no other we’ve attended: the world premiere of Cirque de Soleil’s Zarkana. Staged at the iconic Radio City Music Hall\, Zarkana is “an acrobatic rock opera that blends circus arts with the surreal to create a world where physical virtuosity rubs shoulders with the strange.” Following the glowingly praised production\, DLFNY attendees will be treated to an exclusive post-show discussion with the show’s lighting designer\, Alain Lortie\, who will discuss the lighting opportunities and challenges in capturing this physically dynamic performance on the grand stage of Radio City. \nA portion of each ticket will go to benefit the DLFNY Lighting Education Initiative. The Initiative supports the lighting programs of New York City’s educational institutions as well as the Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education.
