SUMMARY:85 Broad: Lighting a Public Space Experience
DESCRIPTION:When you arrive at 85 Broad\, proceed to the building security desk to sign in. From there\, you’ll be directed to the LPQ cafe in the lower level. Note that this is NOT Le Pain Quotidian at the street level. \nJoin us along with the designers from upLIGHT Studio for an exploration of the newly renovated public spaces at 85 Broad. Highlights include two animated lighting sculptures that wind through the interior and exterior of the building to create a playful and inviting experience. Custom chandeliers tie these sculptures together with a unified design language\, and illuminated map-themed elements place the building’s historic location into the larger context of the city. \nThe discussion will include the use of sophisticated controls to achieve the desired effects while leveraging the existing electrical infrastructure and keeping the project on budget.

Divided into districts\, the 30\,000 square foot market includes cafes\, gardens\, bars and restaurants\, enticing users through a series of dynamic dining experiences. \nThe Kugler Ning team will follow with a tour showcasing the new Pavilion at Brookfield Place. Enclosing a pair of dramatically lit 54-foot tall expressive columns\, the glass pavilion creates a grand new entrance to the former World Financial Center. \nBoth teams will lead us through the design approach\, the experience\, and the challenges that arose throughout the process leading to the downtown destination Brookfield Place has now become.

SUMMARY:BAM Fisher\, Brooklyn's Next Wave Theater
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour and discussion of BAM’s new Richard B. Fisher building a LEED Gold performing arts center that promises to be an artistic hub within a developing cultural community. The central challenge of the design was to create\, on a small budget\, an inviting exterior under the constraints of the building’s landmark-status; the principal lighting features had to be subtle or come from within. \nThe building draws one in through its street presence and enlivened interior\, illuminating the façade without marring the historic fabric. The open lobby\, rooftop terrace\, and flexible black-box theater comprise an extension of BAM that is inextricably woven into its neighborhood. \nCline Bettridge Bernstein\, lighting designers on the project\, will lead a tour through the primary spaces of the facility and will discuss their concept and solutions.

SUMMARY:Beacon at the Crossroads of Brooklyn: Barclays Center Exterior
DESCRIPTION:Join us as Tillotson Design Associates presents the exterior lighting of SHoP Architects-designed instant landmark Barclays Center. \nThe Cor-Ten steel wrapped arena serves as a connection point for Brooklyn and the greater New York City area\, drawing crowds for basketball games and musical acts from Beyoncé to Paul McCartney. The striking lighting of the entry plaza creates a space for large crowds to gather and meet\, and links the building to both the surrounding streets and a major subway connection. We’ll hear about the façade-integrated lighting and plaza lighting for this new iconic addition to the city. \nPhoto Credit: Tommy Voeten
