The Frick Collection: Under a New Light

June 23rd, 2021

About the Event

DLFNY’s 2020-2021 presenters and student guests were invited to experience the beloved holdings of The Frick Collection reframed in a completely new context and under a new light. Serving as the Frick’s temporary home while its historic buildings at One East 70th Street undergo renovation, Frick Madison marks the first time that pieces from their collection have been presented outside the walls of the museum’s Gilded Age mansion.

Our guests learned about Anita Jorgensen Lighting Design’s approach to lighting the collection, which was newly installed in Marcel Breuer’s minimalist building, as she guided them through galleries while discussing the challenges involved. Their tour format included a brief tabletop hands-on discussion about the components of the landmarked 1960’s lighting system and how it was brought up to 21st century technology standards while adhering to museum conservation standards.

Anita’s background in art history and theatrical lighting design brings a strong sense of aesthetics and drama to her lighting approach. Anita’s firm works on a broad range of project types, such as museums, libraries, special exhibitions, research laboratories, art studios, and corporate interiors. Her hands-on experience gained from extensive exhibition lighting design work translates into lighting designs which create magic while being mindful of durability, ease of maintenance, and long-term flexibility.
