March 25th, 2011
About the Event
A special Friday evening program to see the restoration of Pierpont Morgan’s Library. The building was designed in 1903 by Charles Follen McKim of McKim, Mead and White. Richard Renfro – Principal Renfro Design Group and Eileen Pierce, Senior Designer, Renfro Design Group will fascinate us with the details of this historic restoration of the 1906 library to its original grandeur.
Learn about the new lighting system used to illuminate the extraordinary interior of the four historic rooms. Hear how the marble, walls, furniture, tapestries and other details were completed for this considerable restoration.
At 6 PM, we will assemble in the Auditorium for a presentation by Renfro Design Group and The Morgan Library and Museum. At the conclusion, guests will be able to visit the rooms in the McKim wing as well as the other areas of the museum.
Renfro Design Group will be available for questions after the presentation and McKim visit.
Please appreciate that we are guests of the Museum and are visiting during public hours. Space in the rooms of McKim is limited and the Museum has asked that we respect this. The Morgan Library and Museum has a café and bar that is open on Friday night. Please enjoy the surroundings, visit the history in the lower level (auditorium area) if McKim is temporarily full.
You are welcome to stay and visit the entire Museum.
