A Fairytale in the Park: The Re-Lighting of Belvedere Castle
September 21st, 2021
About the Event
Join the DLFNY, Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design and the Central Park Conservancy for this year’s season opener as we celebrate being back together in-person, for a very special program right in the heart of New York’s Central Park.
Belvedere Castle was opened to the public in 1869 as part of Frederick Olmstead and Calvert Vaux’s original Central Park masterplan. The word ‘Belvedere’ derives from the Italian for ‘beautiful view’, and the castle was envisioned as a location to take in the beautiful sweeping vistas of Central Park. Perched upon the park’s second highest land mass, the castle can be viewed from many vantage points, and the recent $12 million renovation has restored this incredible historic structure back to its original glory and renewed its sense of place inside the park.
Together with Michael Hennes of Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design, and Denise Keaveney from the Central Park Conservancy, we will explore both the interior and exterior of the castle, learning about the design challenges associated with re-lighting such a unique structure.
The event will commence at the nearby Loeb Boathouse for a reception of drinks and light refreshments, prior to the tour commencing. Join us for what is sure to be a magical night!
DLFNY would like to ensure the safety for all of our attending guests and speakers. Please note the following Covid-19 protocols, per New York City guidelines:
Per the New York City mandate for indoor dining at restaurants, proof of Covid-19 vaccination will be required to access the pre-event drinks reception at the Loeb Boathouse.
Masks must also be worn at all times during the interior portion of the tour.
Note: To manage capacity due to venue restrictions and COVID precautions, this is a members-only event.
